HIKING AND MOUNTAIN BIKING

More about hiking and mountain biking

Hiking & mountain biking

Explore our unique location, at 1,020 metres above sea level in the middle of the Hohe Tauern mountains. You couldn’t find a more beautiful backdrop than you will enjoy when you hike though the mountainous world of the Pinzgau region. Whether you want to take on the challenge of a tour high up in the mountains or you choose a more relaxing walk around the alpine pastures, there is something for everyone here: crystal-clear mountain lakes, shady forests and sweet-smelling meadows, sunny views and adventures at high altitude.

Our favourite lodges are: Moosalm in Gries in the Pinzgau | Enzianhütte in Thumersbach | Schützingalm in Thumersbach | Bürglalm in Dienten am Hochkönig | Ammererhof at the head of the beautiful Rauris Valley | Steinalm in Saalfelden

Cycle tours in the wide, flat valley basin or in the mountains
You can start gentle tours, as well as more demanding ones, directly from the Taxhof:

  • with a mountain bike up the 2,117 metre-high Hundstein mountain, stopping on the top at the Statzerhaus lodge
  • along the Tauern cycle route to the Krimml waterfalls, followed by a relaxing return journey through the broad Salzach Valley on the Pinzgau railway
  • tour up the Großglockner, at 3,798 metres the highest mountain in Austria

SWIMMING AND WELLBEING

More about swimming and wellbeing

Swimming & wellbeing

There are numerous wonderful bathing lakes in our region where you can swim and take part in all kinds of water sports in the summer.
In our immediate vicinity you can find the Zeller See, which has 3 bathing beaches.

Our insider tip is the romantic Goldegger See

For health-conscious guests and those seeking peace and quiet, thermal baths and hot springs await you in the Tauern SPA in Kaprun or in the Alpentherme (alpine thermal baths) and the Felsentherme (rock thermal baths) in the Gastein Valley. Surrounded by unspoilt nature, they make it easy to relax and take a deep breath.

You can claim a 10% discount on a day ticket for the Tauern SPA, including VIP entry with no waiting time.

SKIS AND SNOW SHOES

More about skis and snow shoes

Skis & snow shoes

Plunge into deep powder snow
Skiers and snowboarders can expect plenty of fun on the pistes at the Kitzsteinhorn glacier, on the Schmittenhöhe mountain in Zell am See or in Saalbach-Hinterglemm.

Away from the pistes, the inviting snowy winter landscape is perfect for winter hiking, cross-country skiing, sledging or ski tours.
Switch off and enjoy the countryside. Enjoy watching the snow glittering and feel the peace.

We love the Kolm Saigurn valley head in Rauris, which we consider to be a piece of undisturbed nature in the Austrian mountains, away from the tourist traps. On a winter holiday, a snow shoe tour through the romantic primeval Rauris forest with a stop at the Ammerhof restaurant is a must.
